Thanks to the 211 project, a Franco-Chinese exchange program (consists of one year’s french language intensification and two years’ master formation), I had the chance of pursuing the Master from the year 2006 in France. The reasons why I decided to study the Master PICS at the Franche-Comté University are mainly linked to the academic formation that this Master offers to students.
Photonique, mIcro & nanoteChnologies, et tempS-fréquence, quite a mouthful, one thinks at first sight. However, I can tell you that its elaborate name is completely justified by the wide experience that you gain in this Master. We have so many great professors in our department. Not only is this formation very multidisciplinary, it also offers you a unique opportunity to broaden your horizon and to interact with people from all over the world. Specially for the internship proposed at the end of formation, you have plenty of choices. Overall, I can proudly say that my master has provided me with the perfect toolbox to carry out my profession career.
Besançon is such a beautiful city and being a student here has been such a unforgettable experience. I would recommend this program to students interested in photonics without hesitation. There's a huge range of courses to choose from so you won't be stuck for options. For me, the key thing is that the academic environment is very supportive so, no matter what your background, you can make the program work for you. If you are considering applying, do it now.
Now, I am working towards a Ph.D degree at the École de technologie supérieure in Montreal, Canada.
